New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe guide: Rock-Candy Mines Star Coins (2025)

In this guide, we’ll show you the locations of every Star Coin in New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe’s Rock-Candy Mines world.

Rock-Candy Mines 1 — Fuzzy Clifftop

Star Coin 1: You’ll need Yoshi for all the Star Coins in this level. The first Star Coin is easily visible above a Fuzzy. Use Yoshi to jump on the Fuzzy and collect the Star Coin.

Star Coin 2: Just after the checkpoint, you’ll see a pipe near a windmill-like platform. Use Yoshi’s flutter jump to make it to the pipe, then take it to a room filled with Fuzzies and the Star Coin. Use Yoshi to jump on the Fuzzies so you can reach the Star Coin.

Star Coin 3: You’ll see the final Star Coin at the end of an area filled with Piranha Plants. Use Yoshi to jump on the plants below and eat the plants above, then snag your Star Coin.

Rock-Candy Mines 2 — Porcupuffer Falls

Star Coin 1: Early in the level, you’ll come across a signpost with a down arrow. Instead of jumping into the water, jump across to the stone ledge. Jump up to reveal a hidden coin block and use that to get over the wall. Keep heading right, and you’ll drop to the Star Coin.

Star Coin 2: After the checkpoint, you’ll be directed to enter the water between two red pipes. Before you do so, grab a Koopa Troopa shell and bring it with you. Use the shell to clear away the Urchins blocking the Star Coin.

Star Coin 3: Near the end of the level, you’ll come across a Roulette Block. Jump on the block, and you’ll be able to jump up to reveal a hidden vine. Climb the vine to a room filled with coins, then drop back down to reach the final Star Coin.

Rock-Candy Mines Tower — Grinding-Stone Tower

1/6Nintendo EAD/Nintendo via Polygon

Star Coin 1: You’ll see a green horizontal pipe moving in and out — get on top of the pipe and move left to enter a hidden area with a Mini Mushroom. Keep working your way up as Mini Mario, and you’ll see a tiny pipe on the left. Take it, and avoid the Grrroll to get your first Star Coin.

Star Coin 2: After you exit the room with the first Star Coin, you’ll see a Grrroll rolling along a platform with a safe spot on the right. Head there and keep moving right to reveal a hidden area where you can jump up to a Star Coin.

Star Coin 3: You’ll need to stay Mini Mario for this, so avoid any Super Mushroom power-ups that would make you grow back to normal size. Work your way up, and eventually you will see a mini pipe on the right. You’ll enter a room with Grrrolls, but they’re easy to avoid — work your way to the top and claim your final Star Coin.

Rock-Candy Mines 3 — Waddlewing’s Nest

1/6Nintendo EAD/Nintendo via Polygon

Star Coin 1: To the right of one of the seesaw platforms, you will see a group of green pipes with a red pipe at the end. Take the red pipe to a room with four columns of bricks in the ground. Ground pound the second column from the left, and you’ll have your Star Coin.

Star Coin 2: To the left of the last seesaw platform in the first area, you’ll find a hidden P Switch. Hit it and follow the trail of blue coins to a hidden area on the right side of the screen. Jump on the music note blocks and get up to the spot where the Star Coin is — it’s blocked by bricks, so you’ve got to get there before the P Switch runs out.

Star Coin 3: In the area with the descending platform, you’ll see the Star Coin on the right. Wall jump to reach it.

Rock-Candy Mines 4 — Light Blocks, Dark Tower

Star Coin 1: The first Star Coin is on the right side of the tower almost as soon as you begin to climb it.

Star Coin 2: As you climb the tower, you’ll see a yellow pipe on the right side. Go through the pipe to enter an area with several Koopa Paratroopas and the Star Coin. You’ll need to jump on the Koopa Paratroopas to reach it.

Star Coin 3: Just before the pipe leading to the end of the level, you’ll see a Fire Bro. The Star Coin is right behind him. Take him out and claim your prize.

Rock-Candy Mines 5 — Walking Piranha Plants!

Star Coin 1: Early in the level, you’ll come to an area with several walking Piranha Plants and one red Koopa Troopa. Launch the shell at the Piranhas — it will take them out and hit a hidden brick below. Slide under the barrier and collect the Star Coin.

Star Coin 2: You’ll need a Super Acorn to reach the second Star Coin. You’ll get one in the cave where a walking Piranha Plant is on a moving platform below a question block. Once you have the Super Acorn, backtrack to the entrance to that cave and do a glide jump up through the gap in the ceiling. The Star Coin is far overhead to your left, and you’ll need to do another glide jump to reach it. To make it easier, hit the P Switch and jump off the nearby blocks.

Star Coin 3: This Star Coin also requires a Super Acorn, so if you don’t have one, hope that the Roulette Block nearby will give you one. Just past the checkpoint, you’ll see the final Star Coin under a low rocky outcropping. To get it, you’ll have to head down to the low platform to the right, jump out into the gap, and glide as far as you can — then, use your glide jump to boost yourself through the Star Coin and up to the platform.

Rock-Candy Mines Tower — Screwtop Tower

1/6Nintendo EAD/Nintendo via Polygon

Star Coin 1: You’ll see a yellow pipe with a signpost on it. Take the screw platform here all the way to its end, then jump up to reveal two hidden coin blocks connecting the pipe to the nearby platform. This will allow you to enter the pipe. When you do, get up to the platform and use the POW Block to eliminate the Bony Beetles and bring down the Star Coin.

Star Coin 2: You’ll find this one at the end of a screw platform — pretty straightforward. No tricks except avoiding the Fire Bar here.

Star Coin 3: When you get to the top of the tower, there will be a Sumo Bro on a platform. Take him out, then climb on the platform and jump up. You will find a series of hidden coin blocks. Use them to reach the final Star Coin.

Rock-Candy Mines 6 — Thrilling Spine Coaster

1/3Nintendo EAD/Nintendo via Polygon

Star Coin 1: Early in the level, the coaster will screech for the first time, and its head will pop up, illuminating the first Star Coin. Jump up and grab it.

Star Coin 2: The coaster will pass by several Spike Tops, then two sections of coins you can jump to, then a few coins right in the coaster’s path. After these coins, look for the Star Coin overhead.

Star Coin 3: After the second Star Coin, you’ll come to a question block at the top of a hill. It contains a Starman. Collect it and then focus on not getting dunked into the poison waters. At the end of the line is a question block. As long as you are still invincible from the last Starman when you hit it, it will contain another Starman. Collect it and then go through the pipe. At the other end you’ll find yet another question block — and, if you’re still invincible, another Starman. Collect this and use your invincibility to run across the nearby Munchers to the Star Coin.

Rock-Candy Mines 7 — Shifting-Floor Cave

1/4Nintendo EAD/Nintendo via Polygon

Star Coin 1: The first Star Coin is right along your path — just time the shifting floors so you can collect it.

Star Coin 2: After the checkpoint, you’ll come to a question block with a green Koopa Troopa under it, followed by a rising and falling column and a Piranha Plant above the ceiling. You’ll notice some coins above the Piranha Plant. Ride the column up to the ceiling and jump to break some blocks and get above the ceiling. You’ll find plenty of coins and a Star Coin.

Star Coin 3: The final star Coin is in a seemingly inaccessible place, just below the pipe to exit the level. To collect it, backtrack until you find a Koopa Troopa, knock it out, and bring its shell with you to toss through the Star Coin.

Rock-Candy Mines Castle — Roy’s Conveyor Castle

1/4Nintendo EAD/Nintendo via Polygon

Star Coin 1: You’ll see the first Star Coin near the beginning of the level, but you’ll need to move fast to claim it. Wait until the first block drops from the conveyor above, blocking the gap to the lava, then rush through before the second block drops and blocks the opening.

Star Coin 2: Just before the checkpoint, you’ll ride blocks through the lava and pass through three spaces where you can jump up. The first two spaces have coins. The third has nothing — or does it? Wall jump up to find a hidden pipe, which takes you to a room with the Star Coin. Dash across the room, jumping to keep the conveyor from slowing your momentum, and collect the Star Coin before the block above can fall on it.

Star Coin 3: The final Star Coin requires a second pass at the castle. Completing level 6, Thrilling Spine Coaster, will open an alternate route to the castle, which you can access while the red snake blocks are extended. Taking the red blocks will lead you to the back of the castle, where you will spawn to the right of the door to the boss. Head left and hit the question switch to drop blocks into the lava, then run and grab the Star Coin before the final block drops and closes your path.
