What color is the wire on a sprinkler system? ›

The common wire is usually white in color and runs from your controller to your master cylinder and then to each of the other valves on your irrigation system in turn. If something happens to cut your common wire, then every valve after the cut will fail to turn on when activated.

Check the circuit breaker or fuse. If it is blown, it's most likely caused by a field wiring short. The electromechanical controller will stop on the sta- tion that caused the problem. Reset the controller in rest position, replace the fuse or circuit breaker.

Sprinkler irrigation wiring usually have 5-10 wires in the bundle, each one a different color. If you have an unused brown wire, than that's just an extra wire in your bundle that wasn't used. You can just ignore it until you need another wire for system expansion someday.

Green electrical wires are insulated and often used for grounding. They may have a yellow stripe. These wires link up to an outlet box's grounding terminal, moving from the box to the ground bus bar of an electric panel.

A thermostat wire cannot be used for a sprinkler wire because it is not ranked for direct burial. If anything, it is best to keep sprinkler wire and thermostat wire to their respective applications. The differences in price are not significant to swap one for the other for budgeting reasons.

When using a wire-tracking tool you can hear the signal strength as well as follow the null meter. The signal will be stronger on either side of the current being sent through the wire from the wire tracking tool. After you have located the break, it is helpful to cross the path to narrow down the hot spot.

Circuit breaker/fuse - Check the condition of the circuit breaker or fuse, if it has been blown the most likely reason is a field wiring short. An Electromechanical controller will stop on the station that caused the problem. Reset the controller to its rest position and replace the fuse or reset the circuit breaker.

Why is my sprinkler controller not turning on my sprinklers? ›

Ensure your water supply is turned on all the way and that any valves along the line are in good working order and fully open. Does your sprinkler system include a rain sensor? Inspect the sensor for debris or damage. The sensor may need to be cleaned, restarted, repaired, or replaced.

Exposed standpipes and sprinkler risers must be painted red; this color-coding must be certified (BC 903.6). All buildings must comply. Branch piping does not require color-coded painting.

Ordinary sprinkler systems have orange or red bulbs. Intermediate, yellow or green. High temperature bulbs are coloured in blue up to 246 degrees Celsius, then purple up to 302 degrees Celsius, and black for anything above. These fall in the Very Extra High and Ultra High categories.

Purple: Slurry, irrigation and reclaimed water. Green: Sewers, drainage facilities or other drain lines.

Without digging, it is possible to find sprinkler lines by getting a design map from the company that installed the system. If this is not possible, one could go to the valve box and follow a line back to each of the head sprinklers in a circuit. Or one could utilize an electronic water-detection device.
